Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad, Adil Rashid and David Wainwright have all been named in England’s provisional 30-man squad for the World Twenty20 in the Caribbean.

Left-arm spinner Wainwright is one of five uncapped players to have made the list, while Hampshire’s former Headingley batsman Michael Lumb is another.

The squad will have to be halved to a final 15 on March 30 in preparation for the start of the competition on April 30.

Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad are currently with the England one-day international squad in Bangladesh, and both played their part in the recent Twenty20 internationals against world champions Pakistan in Dubai.

Bradford-born Rashid, who played five Twenty20 internationals in 2009, and Wainwright both impressed for the England Lions on their recent tour of the United Arab Emirates.

Geoff Miller, England’s national selector, said: “The upcoming World Twenty20 is an exciting tournament, and we have selected an exciting crop of players in this provisional squad.

“All players named have shown their ability in the shortest form of the game, and the selectors have some difficult decisions to make when reducing the squad to 15 players.

“We have a number of young players knocking on the door, which underlines the depth in talent currently available.”

Paul Collingwood will captain the side in the West Indies, but there is no place in the 30 for current stand-in England one-day and Test captain Alastair Cook.

Steven Finn, Peter Trego and Chris Woakes are the other uncapped players to have been named, while outcasts Ravi Bopara and Owais Shah are also in. Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter has also got the nod.
