Bradford and Bingley cricket clubs, who both joined the Bradford League in 1910 before merging for the 1988 season, are holding several events this year to mark their 100-year membership.
They are holding a past players’ day on Saturday, September 11 in their clubhouse at Wagon Lane, culminating in a centenary dinner in the clubhouse that evening, but players and their partners are also invited to watch the first team match that day against Cleckheaton.
Organiser Tom Bairstow said: “Former Yorkshire fast bowler Mike Cowan is the guest speaker. He played for Bingley from 1953-55 and said they were his happiest times.”
Others to confirm so far are former Lancashire all-rounder Ken Standring, former Bingley skipper John (JK) Harrison and ex-Yorkshire all-rounder Neil Hartley.
It is hoped that Hartley’s county contemporary Kevin Sharp, who went on to coach Yorkshire, will also attend.
Any former players from either Bradford or Bingley or Bradford & Bingley who are interested in going to the dinner, or merely attending the match in the afternoon, should contact Tom on 01274-564790.
Meanwhile, Yorkshire are earmarked to face Bradford & Bingley at Wagon Lane in a day-night clash on Thursday, August 12, starting at tea-time, and it is also planned that the MCC will visit Bradford & Bingley for a one-day match.
