Pudsey St Lawrence stalwart Tony Moore, a winner of the Sir Leonard Hutton Trophy for services to the JCT600 Bradford League, has died after a long fight against cancer.
He was a tireless worker for his club, and was club secretary for many years, and filled numerous other roles, including press officer and scorer.
League president Keith Moss, who worked closely with Moore for many years on the Tofts Road committee, said: “This is extremely sad news because we have lost a wonderful servant to club and league.
“Tony fought the bravest of brave fights against cancer. He made light of his condition and was always remarkable cheerful.
“I am immensely grateful that I was able to present him with the Sir Leonard Hutton award in 2008. It meant a great deal to Tony and it was a richly deserved accolade.
“He was a very proud man that night and he was a very deserving winner of the award. He will be sorely missed – particularly at Pudsey St Lawrence but also around the league.”
League chief executive Bob Shackleton added: “Nothing was too much trouble for Tony.
“He would always volunteer to help out and he was somebody you could always rely on. I always appreciated his assistance.”
Moore, who was 73, leaves wife Margaret and two sons. His funeral will be held on Friday at Cottingley Crematorium, Leeds (near Elland Road) at 2.20pm, followed by a function at Pudsey St Lawrence.
