Former Bradford League player Rana Naved-ul-Hasan will be Yorkshire's main overseas player for this season.

The experienced Pakistani was given until the end of January to show he was well on the mend after a shoulder injury sustained at Durham during Sussex's bid for the County Championship last summer.

But now he has passed his pre-season fitness test under the guidance of Yorkshire physio Scott McAllister.

However, despite showing determination and commitment for his new employers, the 29-year-old is still set to make a delayed debut for them in order to minimise the risk of aggravation to the injury.

Commenting on today's news, Yorkshire's chief executive Stewart Regan said: "We are delighted with Rana's progress; he has made a remarkable recovery and we are particularly impressed with his desire to play for Yorkshire.

"We want to ensure he has the best possible chance to fully recover from his injury and therefore we have agreed with Rana and his agent to delay his debut for several weeks so that when he returns he is in top condition.

"We have an exciting contingency plan for a second overseas player to play for the club during the first part of the season. This will be announced early next week."

Rana made his name in Bradford League circles with Lidget Green, but primarily with Pudsey Congs, who he helped to become the leading side in the league.

He also starred for the Bradford League in representative matches, particularly against the Yorkshire League at the Scarborough Festival.
