Steeton's dream of turning the tables on Pool and lifting the Waddilove Cup for the first time since 1999 came to grief in the final at Knaresborough.

Steeton, bottom of the Aire-Wharfe League Division One, were always second favourites against the double-chasing leaders and Pool won by seven wickets.

Australian Hagan Shakespeare, batting at five, did his best with a half-century but the only other Steeton batsman to exceed 20 runs was Luke Stockhill, who was run out for 22 and there were 22 extras.

Chasing Steeton's total of 169 for nine, Pool opener David Singleton was run out for one, but co-opener James Ward hit a match-winning 79 not out, including eight fours and a six, to carry off the man of the match award.

David Murphy and Jonathan Davey made scores in the thirties and John Goldthorp was left undefeated on 17 as Pool won the cup for the first time with five overs to spare.

Bilton had lifted the cup in the last three seasons and Guiseley were triumphant in the three seasons before that. Now Pool hope to maintain the tradition of cup-winning hat-tricks, though this season's league championship is their priority.
