Apparently down and out in the first half of this season's Twenty20 Cup competition, Yorkshire Phoenix have picked themselves up off the floor and a fourth consecutive victory from tomorrow's match with Derbyshire Phantoms at Headingley Carnegie (5.30) could see them make it through to the quarter-finals.

It would be a remarkable transformation in fortunes for skipper Darren Gough's side after suffering three defeats and gaining one point from a no-result contest.

They started to get their act together by completing the double over Durham Dynamos and then beat Nottinghamshire Outlaws on Wednesday.

What Yorkshire are most anxious for now is some decent weather in order to play their first full Twenty20 home match of the summer.

The Roses clash at Headingley Carnegie was abandoned without a ball being bowled and only a nine-over contest could be squeezed in against Durham before the match with Nottinghamshire was reduced to the minimum five overs.

The fact that Yorkshire managed a game at all against Nottinghamshire was due to the emergency regulation which allowed them to claim an extra half hour in which to complete the match and without that measure they would now be out of the reckoning for a last eight place.

The fans were remarkably patient as they waited in the rain for two-and-a-half hours for the game to get started and they have been rewarded with the offer of a free day's cricket at any Yorkshire home match this season on production of their ticket for the Notts match.

If Yorkshire should manage a quarter-final place they will do so with exactly the same record as last year, when they had four wins and three defeats from their eight North Division matches, plus one no-result.

Even if they overcome lowly Derbyshire, however, they still require Lancashire to beat Leicestershire Foxes at Old Trafford, otherwise Leicestershire will secure the third place which could take them through on run rate.

Although Younus Khan has now returned from Pakistan's short tour of Scotland, Yorkshire are sticking with the same side which has won all three matches.

Once tomorrow's game is over, Yorkshire's thoughts will immediately be focused on Championship action and the start of the Roses match at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Yorkshire's chances of beating Lancashire and staying top of the Division One table are boosted by the return of England captain Michael Vaughan and fast bowler, Matthew Hoggard. Craig White and Deon Kruis are expected to make way for the Test pair.
