Woodlands all-rounder Chris Brice is the surprise leader of the JCT600 Bradford League Division One first-team averages at the halfway point of the season.

Left-arm spinner Brice, who is Woodlands' Mr Bat Anywhere' has had not outs in six of his ten innings for a return of 69.00.

Second is Pudsey Congs' overseas player Afaq Raheem with 63.50. However, he has only played six innings - the minimum for qualification - as he has returned to Pakistan for a training camp.

The fact that Pudsey St Lawrence have three batsman in the top ten - Mark Robert-shaw (third), Australian Tom Stray (seventh) and James Smith (ninth) is no surprise.

However, what has turned heads more is that Brighouse have bettered them with three in the top eight.

Haroon Rashid's fourth place shows that talent in their family is not the sole reserve of Yorkshire all-rounder Adil, while wicket-keeper Mark Gill is fifth and skipper and opening bat Mark Gilliver eighth.

Completing the top ten are classy Farsley and former Yorkshire batsman Ashley Metcalfe (sixth) and Bradford & Bingley's Phil Slater (tenth).

Robertshaw has the leading aggregate with 498, followed by Rashid (460), Gilliver (456), East Bierley's Gharib Razak (423) and Metcalfe (401).

Where Woodlands' strength lies can be seen by them placing an impressive four bowlers in the top six - Safraz Ahmed (first), the underrated Richard Spittelhouse (second), Pieter Swanepoel (fourth) and Brice (sixth), who is the leading contender so far for all-rounder of the season.

Newcomers Manningham Mills and Bowling Old Lane both have a bowler in the top ten in Ahsan Butt (Mills) at third and Mr Steadyness himself Zubair Najeeb (Old Lane) at ninth. Perhaps the finds of the season so far, however, are left-arm spinners Luke Jarvis, from East Bierley, (eighth) and Chris Greenwood, from Brighouse (fifth).

Completing the top ten are Cleckheaton's overseas player Mohammad Zaman (seventh) and Bradford & Bingley's Chris Thompson (tenth). Baildon's spin duo Jeremy Batty and Mushtaq Ahmed are bubbling under in 11th and 12th.

Najeeb is leading the economy rate at an average of only 2.33 runs per over, while Ahmed is second at 2.42 and Ahmed third at 2.81.

Butt and Ian Wood (Cleckheaton) are also under three, both returning 2.91.

Spittlehouse has the leading strike rate with a wicket every 22 balls, followed by Saltaire's Adal Islam (23.19).

Usman Munir (Saltaire) and Jon Carey (Yeadon) are leading the batting and bowling averages for Division One second teams on 85.67 and 9.21 respectively.
