Yorkshire will make their first Championship visit to the Nevill ground at Tunbridge Wells in 17 years tomorrow and the Division One leaders will be anxious to extend their good record against Kent at the venue.

It is their tenth appearance in the competition there since 1909 and of the nine encounters so far they have won four, drawn four and lost only one.

With the weather set fair, both sides are hoping that the current fixture will not be ruined by rain as happened on Yorkshire's last visit in 1990 when they were led by Martyn Moxon and present skipper Darren Gough was still an up-and-coming fast bowler.

Craig White is also a survivor of that match, which will always be remembered by Ashley Metcalfe as the game in which he was dismissed twice within the first hour of the third day's play!

Kent made 333 for five declared but heavy rain threatened to ruin the match until it was agreed that Yorkshire should bat for a few overs at the start of their first innings and then declare.

This was followed by a Kent forfeiture, leaving Yorkshire to make 301 to win but when they had reached 23 for one another downpour brought about a swift abandonment.

Metcalfe was caught off a skier in the first innings as Yorkshire dashed to 33 for one in 3.3 overs and he soon found himself back at the crease only to be caught behind for 14.

Moxon, now director of cricket, was also heavily involved in Yorkshire's previous Championship match on the ground, which was in 1984, when he scored 110 out of a first innings 297.

Bob Woolmer top-scored for Kent with 58 as they fell 20 short on the first innings and Geoff Boycott hit an unbeaten 104 second time around when current batting coach, Kevin Sharp, fell on 99.

Splendid fast bowling from Arnie Sidebottom, who grabbed the first six wickets, threatened to sweep Kent away but they managed to cling on for a draw.
