Only one Bradford Central League cup tie survived the inclement weather yesterday and that proved to be a case of deja vu.

It featured joint Division One leaders Hepworth & Idle and Allerton at Westfield Lane and starring roles by Dave Matthews and Dale Wood turned the tie on its head.

Not for the first time in recent weeks, the dynamic bowling duo produced sterling efforts to earn hosts Hepworth & Idle an unlikely 52-run victory.

They were soon on the back foot at 15 for two but a stand of 44 between Mark Mills, who top-scored with 27, and Nick Wood appeared to have steadied the ship at 97 for four with 16 overs left.

But Tabrak Hussain claimed a miserly three for six and this helped dismiss the home side for 125.

Allerton made a disastrous start as Matthews collected two wickets in his first over and only skipper Masood Zaman (23) offered much resistance before he was the last wicket to fall at 73.

Matthews finished with five for 14 and Wood returned five for 21, earning a home tie against local rivals BT (Bradford) in the next round.

The outstanding Waddilove Trophy first-round tie between Laisterdyke and Great Horton Church will take place next Sunday.

This is also the date for Thrippleton Cup ties between Allerton and Hepworth & Idle and Great Horton Church and Laisterdyke.
