Yorkshire are giving youth its fling in the three-day match against Loughborough University Centre of Cricketing Excellence, which begins at Headingley Carnegie tomorrow.

Left-hander Andrew Gale captains Yorkshire, who have rested all their senior players from the game which carries first-class status.

Even so, the strength in depth of Yorkshire's playing staff is illustrated by the fact that only two of the side will be making their first-class debuts - left-hander Adam Lyth, from Whitby, and all-rounder Chris Gilbert, from Scarborough.

The remaining members of the team have all played championship cricket for Yorkshire at some stage.

Although Adil Rashid has made a big impact for Yorkshire in the first month of the season, fellow leg-spinner Mark Lawson now has an opportunity to show that he too has a possible England future.

Several counties would be more than happy to sign Lawson here and now given the chance, and Yorkshire need to give him as many senior outings as possible in order to keep him happy.

Gerard Brophy, Yorkshire's regular wicketkeeper, is glad to be able to rest up for a few days after suffering severe bruising on his right hand during the championship match with Worcestershire.

Fast bowler Deon Kruis, who pulled a hamstring during the Friends Provident Trophy match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on April 22, continues to work his way back to full fitness.

Kruis is particularly needed now that Matthew Hoggard has joined up with England but a question mark remains over whether he will have recovered in time for Yorkshire's Friends Provident game with Lancashire at Old Trafford on Sunday.
