Last year's beaten finalists Baildon have been knocked out of this season's Heavy Woollen Cup after losing a bowl-out.

Their second-round tie with Central Yorkshire League champions Wrenthorpe had to be abandoned due to rain and in a sudden-death decider the home side won 2-1.

Losing was cruel luck on Baildon, who had reached 152 for one after 25 overs having been put in, with opener Simon Davies (69no) and Tabbi Bhatti (52no).

That score is no mean feat considering that Wrenthorpe's attack included former Idle overseas player Dinush Fernando and former Pudsey Congs stalwart Neil Gill.

In the bowl-out Baildon struck immediately when Mushtaq Ahmed hit the stumps with their first delivery but their remaining four bowlers all missed.

Wrenthorpe missed their first four but levelled on the fifth to force sudden death.

The home side sealed victory when former Pudsey St Lawrence player Gary Fellows hit and Ahmed missed.

In the only all-Bradford League battle, Yeadon defeated Farsley 3-1 in a bowl-out.

"There aren't too many in the Farsley side that can bowl straight," said their long-time supporter Eric Vevers.

"It is an unsatisfactory way to settle a match but I am not that clever and cannot think of anything better.

"It is such a widespread competition that I wouldn't fancy travelling to Barnsley only to be rained off - and we won a bowl-out at New Farnley last year."

Saltaire were struggling at 51 for four against Slaithwaite, having lost three wickets at 11, when the heavens opened.

However, Khurram Maqsood and Imran Arif got direct hits in the bowl-out to put Saltaire through 2-1.

Undercliffe's hero was Ben Heritage, his accurate ball putting out Mirfield Parish Cavaliers 1-0 and seeing the Intake Road side into the third round.

Former Mirfield bowler Neil Parkinson had a direct hit ruled out because it had pitched in the batsman's crease.

Saltaire's second team also went through on a bowl-out in the Crowther Cup against Holmfirth, with Usman Munir getting the only hit off the 14th delivery of the lottery'. Others to progress via bowl-outs were Baildon (over Morley), Gomersal, Spen Victoria and Woodlands (over Barnsley) but out went Idle and Manningham Mills.
