Keighley's Priestley Cup victory over East Bierley last week was probably as much a surprise to themselves as it was to everyone else.
After relegation from Bradford League Division One last season, the club decided to pin their hopes on youth rather than splash the cash on more recognised players.
It means that the Hard Ings Road outfit are looking at the bigger picture and accept they may have to be patient for success.
"Promotion would be a bonus this year but it is not at the forefront of our minds," said experienced batsman Richard Robinson.
"We have a five-year plan to develop a younger team with guys from around the local area."
But already their faith in youth is paying dividends, primarily in the shape of all-rounder Max Davison.
The 17-year-old was signed from Craven League neighbours Oxenhope and is the nephew of former Yorkshire and Keighley bowler Peter Hartley.
Davison was the star performer against East Bierley, taking three wickets - including that of former Yorkshire and England player Gavin Hamilton - and making an unbeaten 49.
Davison has also taken five for 67 against Central Yorkshire League champions Wrenthorpe in the Heavy Woollen Cup.
Again, the youngster claimed a notable scalp in bowling out Gary Fellows, the former Yorkshire and Pudsey St Lawrence batsman.
His exploits earned him a call-up for the Bradford League White Rose team while Paul Quinlan, signed from Airedale, Chris Crook and Jake Hoyle, both recruited from Ingrow, are other youngsters who Keighley hope to develop.
Both Quinlan and Davison were award-winners in the under-17 Upper Airedale Junior League last season.
