Second Division Keighley produced the shock of the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup first round when they beat current First Division leaders East Bierley by seven wickets.

Gavin Hamilton made 125 for visiting Bierley in their 223 all out but Max Davison was the star of the show for the hosts. He took three for 50, which saw him dismiss three of the top five including Hamilton, before making an unbeaten 49 as Keighley cruised home with overs to spare.

The innings of the round came from Pudsey St Lawrence opener Alex Stead.

The 27-year-old former Durham UCCE player smashed the Hartshead Moor attack for 175 in Saints' 352 for six.

He added 71 for the first wicket with Tom Stray (29), 133 for the second with James Smith (63) and 88 for the third with Graeme Wrightson (42).

However, St Lawrence didn't have things all their own way after tea as Moor made 227 in reply. Adnan Raees followed up his four for 57 by scoring 82 for the Second Division side.

Manningham Mills were on the wrong end of an upset at home to Lightcliffe. Ahsan Butt made 94 in Mills' 225 all out, Aleem Ladak taking three for 36 and Bilal Hussain three for 38.

Lightcliffe were 94 for four but Jonathan Wilson's 80, plus an unbeaten 41 by Javed Iqbal, took them to a five-wicket victory with six overs to spare.

Great Horton also caused a shock, although their triumph by 76 runs at Farsley was predicted by some. Mohammed Altaf (73) and Kashif Naveed (54) impressed in the visitors' 229 and then Nasser Hussain (5-36) and Naveed (4-16) helped dismiss the Red Laners for 153.

Adam Stott top-scored for Gomersal in their total of 262 for eight but an unbeaten 113 from Haroon Rashid and 81 not out from Rizwan Ahmed saw Brighouse to an eight-wicket win.

Hosts Bradford & Bingley were 80 for six against Idle before Richard McCarthy (68) and Robert Walker (58) put on 113, helping them to 213.

Pace bowler Ethy Mbhalati (3-25) and off-spinner David Clow (5-29) were then instrumental in dismissing Idle for 116, Bingley thus gaining revenge for their league defeat of eight days before.

Esholt are a confident bunch at the moment and Ben Platt made 93 and No 10 Adrian Taylor 48 not out in their 246 at home to Bankfoot.

Wicketkeeper Micky Hutchins had three stumpings and two catches for the visitors, who replied with 205.

Chris Elstub's 107 for Spen Victoria was in vain as Shoaib Khan (81) and Paul Kinder (56 not out) helped Morley to a four-wicket victory.

Holders Woodlands won by ten wickets at Windhill and Pudsey Congs, for whom opener Scott Cunningham made 91, triumphed by 65 runs at Yeadon.
