I'M sure Adil Rashid can play a big part for England in the Ashes.
He was left out of their squad for the training camp next weekend but he's still the best spinner in the country – I don't think there's any doubt about that.
He's a wicket-taker, and I'm sure he's in their thoughts for some point in the series.
He's taken to international cricket well again during the one-day series with New Zealand, which finished on Saturday.
With Adil, it’s never been a question of his talent or his skills as a batsman and a leg-spinner. All he has ever needed is a bit of backing from England.
I think he’s been messed about a little bit when he was really young and in the West Indies when he was carrying the drinks.
He got played in a T20, got whacked and didn’t play again. That is the wrong sort of message to send out to a young player. It is hard for them to come back from that. He’s had a few years now in first-class cricket to learn his game and become confident.
The one-day series provided excellent entertainment with the increase in scores, and the make-up of England's team was exciting to see.
They’ve made some youthful additions, and it’s the way forward for English cricket. With younger blokes, I’m sure they’ll take to that format and embrace it.
It’s a new-look team, so there’s nothing there mentally for them to ponder on. They’re all relatively young with nothing to lose. They are going out and giving it a go, and hopefully they can continue to go on like that.
The Royal London one-day Cup is approximately a month away now, and I'm sure it will have a knock-on effect in county cricket.
You’ve got to be scoring over a run-a-ball now.
Obviously scoring 350-400 and an aggressive brand of cricket means that if you want to play at that level, you have to be able to produce those sort of results. Hopefully it will turn domestic cricket into an attractive brand too.
