YORKSHIRE players Gary Ballance, Adam Lyth, Liam Plunkett and Joe Root have been selected to travel to Spain next Saturday for a four-day pre-Ashes training camp with new England coach Trevor Bayliss.
The quartet will miss the LV= County Championship match at Durham, starting the following day.
It means that Root, currently involved in England's one-day and Twenty20 series against New Zealand, will not get any red-ball cricket in before the first Test at Cardiff on July 8.
And for Ballance, Lyth and Plunkett, next week's four-day match against Nottinghamshire at Headingley will be their last before facing the Australians, if selected in the first Test squad.
There is no place on the Spain trip for leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who can at least console himself with the news that he has been selected for Tuesday's one-off Twenty20 international against the Kiwis in Manchester, for which Root is also selected.
Rashid will miss the Notts game but will be available to face Durham.
England Ashes training camp squad: Cook, Ali, Anderson, Ballance, Bell, Broad, Buttler, Finn, Footitt, Lyth, Plunkett, Root, Stokes, Wood.
