SIDHANT Adhatrao only arrived from Mumbai on Thursday but got his Thackley career off to an impressive start in the Aire-Wharfe League with a match-winning Waddilove Cup century at Calverley.

Having worked with the same coach as Sachin Tendulkar, Adhatrao comes highly recommended and lived up to expectations with 15 boundaries in his 108.

He and Alan Cuff (61no) put on 134 for the fifth wicket as Thackley raced to 253-5, a total Calverley were never on target to chase down despite a fine 68 from Dan Hall.

Although Burley have struggled in the league in recent weeks, the nine-times cup winners always rise to a Waddilove challenge and comfortably knocked out league leaders Beckwithshaw by 74 runs.

Things did not look so bright when they struggled to 60-6 but Jason Wright (56) and Richard Brook (68) put on 128 and Burley finished with a respectable 195-9.

Wright then took 3-34 and, with James Frost (4-26), dismissed the home side cheaply.

Ilkley looked up against it when league new boys Old Modernians hit 256-7 – but Will Spivey (45) gave them a solid start before Jonathan Hughes (85no) and Robert Wheeler (34no) saw them home with six wickets and 1.2 overs in hand.

Holders Otley had a comfortable passage against Adel.

David Hester (54) top-scored in their 255 before Ben Morley (3-26) started the visitors' downfall and Jamie Pickering finished them off with 3-2.

Harry Smallwood (75) was the main contributor to Olicanian's 204 but it was not enough to stop Ben Rhydding reaching the quarter-finals.

They had been restored to the competition when first-round conquerors Alwoodley were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.

Matt Proudman (72) shared important stands with Forrest Hamilton (33) and Charlie Swallow (48no) to see the home side to a five-wicket victory.

Horsforth eased through against round-one giant-killers Addingham after Ollie Hardaker (66) and Mahir Ali (64) helped them recover from 52-4 to 236.

Addingham struggled to 101 against the accurate bowling of Gareth Lee (5-20).

Quarter-final draw (to be played on Sunday, June 28): Ben Rhydding v Burley, Collingham v Otley, Horsforth v Ilkley, Thackley v Bilton.
