FROM a Yorkshire point of view, we hope Jason Gillespie doesn’t go to England as their new coach. But we accept that one day he will leave us, be it now or in the future.

It doesn’t matter what you do, whether it’s in sport or Monday to Friday 9 to 5, you will move on if you’re talented. And he is.

He’s got us into a good place as a team, he’s a great coach, and England would be silly if they weren’t looking at him.

It’s been hard to ignore all the speculation around during the last week, so there’s been a bit of joking and jibing in the changing room between the lads and Dizzy.

If he does go or he doesn’t, who knows. Whatever happens, we’ve got the same set of players with a great support staff, and we’ll keep that unity and move forwards.

I think the upcoming Test series between England and New Zealand, which starts later this week, is a 50/50 call.

England’s team has changed, and it’s probably a bit unsettled at the minute.

New Zealand are a well-knit team with a strong unity, almost that family environment it seems. They have some high-class players, and they are as strong as they’ve ever been, probably. But hopefully England can get on a roll.

For me personally, it’s great to watch so many Yorkshire lads in the England side when you turn the TV on.

Adam Lyth deserves his go. He has scored heavily over the last couple of years, and he’s the obvious choice to open. If he gets a decent run, he will make a success of international cricket, I’m sure.

Hopefully Rooty and Gary Ballance will keep up the good work, and then we’ve also got Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett and Jonny Bairstow knocking on the door.

For Yorkshire, it’s a similar situation to Dizzy. We’d like the lads to be around our squad but for the individual, we want them to play as much international cricket as they can.

Somebody else who will definitely be an England player of the future if we manage him right at Yorkshire is Matthew Fisher.

He bowled superbly for his five wickets in Friday’s Twenty20 win over Derbyshire.

At 17, you’ve got that freshness, and people haven’t seen you play much, which gives you that X factor and a bit of mystery. He is a fine bowler and a great lad to go with it.

We started well in last year’s T20 Blast but this year we’ve got to make sure we’re consistent. We can’t drop off the pace. We really want to nail this competition down now.

We want to dominate and get through to Finals Day.
