YORKSHIRE head coach Jason Gillespie was denied the opportunity to answer questions on his future as speculation regarding a job with England intensifies.
Andrew Strauss, the new England & Wales Cricket Board director, named Gillespie as a candidate in the search for a replacement for sacked head coach Peter Moores.
And though Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon revealed the former Australia seamer wanted to respond to recent rumours, he confirmed the club had still not received any official approach for Gillespie.
"The fact is that Jason is going to have answer questions, but rather than him standing here and giving no comment it's better to not say anything until we've got something official," said Moxon.
"If and when Andrew Strauss has officially spoken to him, we'll be the first ones to let you know and you can do a press conference with him.
"At the moment, since he's got nothing concrete to tell you, there's no point him being here."
On the pitch, Yorkshire secured their second County Championship victory of the season as they saw off Hampshire by 305 runs at Headingley.
Adil Rashid finished with figures of 4-48 as the Tykes bowled the visitors out for 143 despite 64 not out from Will Smith.
The unbeaten batsman was given a reprieve on 20 as Jack Leaning failed to hold on to a difficult low catch off the bowling of Jack Brooks.
But he was unable to guide Hampshire to a draw as they fell well short of their 449 victory target, having resumed on 37-4.
Nightwatchman James Tomlinson was the first to fall as he was bowled by Rashid, before Sean Ervine edged Tim Bresnan through to Jonny Bairstow.
That brought Lewis McManus to the crease and, along with Smith, he frustrated the Tykes bowlers as they added 56 for the seventh wicket.
But McManus eventually fell for 28 to Will Rhodes and from there, Yorkshire moved quickly to wrap up victory with a session to spare.
Gareth Berg swept Rashid straight to Brooks at backward square-leg and Andre Adams edged to Bresnan at slip off the very next delivery.
Fidel Edwards survived the hat-trick ball but could not hold out with Smith as the West Indian edged Steven Patterson to Alex Lees early in the afternoon session.
