YORKSHIRE were frustrated by Hampshire’s batsmen as they looked to secure victory on the fourth morning of their County Championship clash at Headingley.
Will Smith survived a dropped catch by Jack Leaning to reach lunch unbeaten on 51 with the visitors 114-6 in pursuit of their improbable 449 target.
Leaning’s missed opportunity came with Smith on 20 as he failed to hold on to an edge at third slip diving to his right off the bowling of Jack Brooks.
Yorkshire were celebrating soon after, however, as James Tomlinson’s 40-ball resistance was ended when bowled by Adil Rashid.
Tim Bresnan then removed Sean Ervine caught behind for five - but first-class debutant Lewis McManus (26no) joined Smith to see Hampshire through to the lunch break.
