THERE was a dramatic finish at Haworth Road in the first round of the Mewies Solicitors Craven League's Wynn Cup.
Mohammed Zahid held the home innings together with 44 out of their 115 as Craig Green took 4-16 and Jonathan Thompson 3-33 for Hepworth & Idle.
The visitors crept closer in this derby but their last wicket fell at 112 with just 11 balls to go as Andrew Maude took 4-26.
Holders Oakworth made an emphatic start, defeating Foulridge by ten wickets at Cure Hill.
The Noyna side elected to bat and were hustled out for 72, with Adam Smith taking 4-25 and Steve Filkin 3-37.
Oakworth then galloped home in 12.2 overs, with Jack Hainsworth scoring 48 not out and Robert Hopkinson 27 not out.
Thornton-in-Craven, who lost to Oakworth in the 2014 final, stumbled at the first hurdle this time, hosts Sutton making 140, of which Dave Snowden scored 53.
The ten-man Booth Bridge Laners had no answer to Chris Walker, who had a spell of 6-12 on his way to 6-27 as the visitors could only reply with 76-9.
Glusburn entertained Long Lee and were restricted to 139-7, Ian Simmons top-scoring with 34 as Ian Roberts claimed 4-51.
Alan Boradley, Long Lee's new recruit from Ingrow, opened the reply with a super knock of 73 (11 fours, two sixes) to go with Mark Day's 30 not out as the Golden View side booked their place in the next round.
Ingrow St John's' trip over the border proved to be fruitful as they won by five wickets at Barrowford, who made 124 as Nadeem Zaman took 3-16 and Nadeem Safdar 3-19.
However, the Saints got home with just 16 balls to go, Deepal Dissanayake leading the way with 45.
Wilsden were brushed aside by Denholme at Windy Grove.
The home side made only 106-9, with Doug Richardson top-scoring with 49 as Matty Wear took 5-47.
Ben Burkill (61no) and Tom Greenwood put on an defeated 91 for the second wicket for Denholme to see the Bradford Road side to victory by nine wickets.
Ajmal Choudhry carried his bat for 77 not out as Cowling made 141-5, visitors Embsay getting home by six wickets thanks to Phil Binner making an unbeaten 73.
This was the first year that games started at 1pm and were restricted to 45 overs per side.
