CHE Pujara registered his highest score in a Yorkshire shirt as the Tykes pushed towards a declaration in their second innings against Hampshire.
The India batsman hit 12 fours and a six as he reached tea unbeaten on 92 having shared in a stand of 130 with Jonny Bairstow for the fourth wicket.
The wicketkeeper himself made 59, having scored a century in the first innings of the match, with Yorkshire leading by 362 at the break on 219-4.
It had taken Yorkshire 15 balls to wrap up Hampshire’s first innings in the morning session as they were bowled out for 227 before Adam Lyth and Alex Lees fell before lunch.
Andrew Gale followed them shortly before the break as he became Fidel Edwards’ second wicket due to a misguided hook, but from there Pujara and Bairstow took over and dominated the Hampshire attack.
Bairstow eventually fell to Liam Dawson as Jack Leaning joined Pujara at the crease heading into the evening session.
Meanwhile, new ECB Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss confirmed Yorkshire head coach Jason Gillespie is a candidate to replace Peter Moores as head coach of England.
Speaking at Lord’s, the former England captain said: “Jason Gillespie is one of the candidates, absolutely. Will approach candidates in the next few days.”
He also confirmed Yorkshire batsman Joe Root as the new Test vice-captain for the upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia.
