YOU know and we know that we have the squad of players at Yorkshire to do well in Twenty20 cricket.

But you can talk about it as much as you like – it's about getting the job done, starting against Derbyshire at Headingley on Friday night.

We haven't really performed how we'd have liked to for the last couple of years.

I can only speak personally about last year's campaign. We played some really good cricket and some terrible cricket too, so it's fair to say we want to find some more consistency.

We won the Emirates Airline competition on our pre-season tour of Dubai in March and the way we played our cricket out there was a good template.

They were a valuable couple of wins against Lancashire and Sussex to show the lads that we can do it. It should be no different over here. If we can show that same intent and aggression, we'll do okay.

We have looked at how we play and we have struck on the theory of 'don't die wondering'. If you lose a few quick wickets, you might as well go hell for leather instead of just getting to 120 or 130.

I think that's what everybody wants to watch and I think it will make us better T20 cricketers playing like that as well.

It's obvious in Twenty20 that you are going to lose a few games. That's part of it. But if we play like that, we'll win more than we lose. If we can get off to a good start, there's no reason why we can't be in the hunt.

The last few years, the club have invested some money into top-class T20 overseas players – and Glenn Maxwell is one of those. We're also hoping to have Aaron Finch available for the majority of the competition.

I think it sends a signal of intent out to the other teams but ultimately it comes down to us executing our skills and playing with that freedom and enjoyment.

T20 is a massive game of enjoyment, both for the players and for the fans. Playing under the new floodlights at Headingley will be exciting and hopefully we'll get a few more locals coming in.

The start time being pushed back a little bit allows us to get in from work and I'm hoping people see that as pre-drinks entertainment – coming down to watch the lads at Headingley before going out to Leeds.
