ILKLEY finally tasted victory after losing their first two Aire-Wharfe League games as they overcame a serious threat from early Division Two pacemakers Colton by 43 runs in the preliminary round of the Waddilove Cup.
There were a few anxious moments when the Division One strugglers were bowled out for 180. But testing bowling from Rob Spivey (3-25) and Andy Wheeler (3-48) helped dismiss the home side for 137, despite the efforts of in-form Jonathan Horner (59).
Ilkley now face a trip to Steeton in the first-round proper.
Hall Park became the latest victims of revitalised Alwoodley in their all-Division Three clash.
Barry McCormick smashed 177 as the visitors hit 326 to set up a win by more than 200 runs and earn a home tie against Ben Rhydding on Sunday, May 17.
