JACK Leaning reached 50 for the fifth time in his first-class career as Yorkshire’s batsmen enjoyed a fine morning on the third day of their LV= County Championship Division One game at Trent Bridge.
Resuming on 226-3, the White Rose were 322-4 at the interval, with York batsman Leaning on 65 not out and Rich Pyrah unbeaten on 29.
The only batsman to be dismissed was Andrew Gale, who was caught at first slip by Riki Wessels off a fine delivery from Harry Gurney without adding to his overnight 13.
However, Leaning and Pyrah ensured that the home side would enjoy no further successes and both players looked very accomplished during an unbroken 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Inevitably, attention will now shift to the matter of whether the very talented Leaning can record his maiden first-class hundred.
The 21-year-old batsman, however, will no doubt be focused on facing one ball at a time.
