YORKSHIRE openers Alex Lees and Will Rhodes capitalised on some fine work by the White Rose seamers to take their side to 62-0 at lunch on the second day of their LV= County Championship Division One match at Trent Bridge.

Both openers needed a little good fortune against the home side’s new-ball bowlers but Rhodes was 39 not out at the interval with Lees unbeaten on 23.

This follows their unbroken century stand in the second innings of the match at Worcester last week.

The session was also successful for Yorkshire’s bowlers, who took the last three Nottinghamshire wickets at a cost of 35 runs in the opening 45 minutes.

Jack Brooks had Vernon Philander caught by second slip Jack Leaning for seven before Steven Patterson claimed the prize wicket of Alex Hales, who was bowled by a good ball which clipped the off stump when he had made an outstanding 236.

No 10 Jake Ball hoicked Tim Bresnan for six but the bowler had his revenge next delivery when he bowled the Nottinghamshire batsman to end the innings on 428.

Bresnan finished with 2-85 and Brooks claimed 3-99, but the pick of the visiting attack was Patterson, who returned figures of 29-10-78-3.
