Matthew Fisher took his first wicket with just his seventh ball in County Championship cricket as Yorkshire shared the spoils with Nottinghamshire on an absorbing first morning of the LV= Division One game at Trent Bridge.
The home side were 105-2 after 32 overs at the interval but the 17-year-old Fisher will remember the session for the delivery which tempted Brendan Taylor into an expansive drive, the resultant edge being well caught two-handed at shoulder height by Alex Lees at first slip.
Taylor’s departure for 27 left the home side on 77-2 after Andrew Gale had opted to bowl first on a mostly cloudy Nottingham morning.
The other wicket was taken by Steven Patterson, who had Steven Mullaney lbw, also for 27, in the 12th over.
Yorkshire’s seamers gave Chris Read’s other front-line batsmen a fair examination on a Trent Bridge wicket offering plenty of bounce, but there were no shortage of opportunities to score runs either.
At the interval, Alex Hales was batting impressively on 30 not out and James Taylor was unbeaten on 11.
Fisher, who hails from York, returned to the pavilion with figures of 5-2-11-1 at the end of a session in which Gale had used all six of his seamers after omitting Karl Carver from the final 11.
