Rich Pyrah and Andrew Hodd steered Yorkshire away from potential danger with a sixth-wicket stand of 116 inside 19 overs during the afternoon session of day one against Leeds Bradford MCC Universities at Headingley.
The county champions had slipped to 148-5 after lunch, including the loss of Alex Lees for 63, but Pyrah and Hodd took the students to task, even taking 51 runs off three overs between the 60th and 62nd of the innings.
Yorkshire reached tea at 275-7 after 67.2 overs, with Pyrah out lbw to Alex Lilley for 84 off 93 balls to signal an early end to the session.
Hodd was also trapped lbw by captain Lilley for 54 off 62 balls.
George Scott, Joe Ellis-Grewal and Lilley were the victims of the onslaught, with the former going for 29 in the 60th over, including five fours, two of them off no-balls.
