YORKSHIRE all-rounder Adil Rashid took two cheap wickets as England Lions just failed to force a victory in the opening match of their South African tour.
The leg-spinner, who had taken some hammer in bagging 1-66 off 12 overs in the first innings, picked up 2-14 in eight overs as a Gauteng Invitation XI held out on 120-8 at the University of Johannesburg in Soweto when chasing an improbable 441 for victory.
Rashid's county colleagues Liam Plunkett and Jack Brooks had earlier taken a wicket apiece after the Lions declared their second innings on 176-5, skipper Jonathan Trott making an unbeaten 79 and Sam Billings (53) becoming the fourth tourist to retire out in the match.
The Lions' next match is a four-day unofficial Test against South Africa A, starting at Paarl on Sunday (8.30am).
