Buttershaw St Paul's march into last eight of Jack Hampshire Memorial Trophy

It was a second successive giant-killing for the All Rounder Cricket Equipment Central Yorkshire League Championship Division strugglers Buttershaw, who desperately need a change in fortune in their league programme after a 127-run defeat at leaders Batley left them joint bottom with an Oulton side beaten by seven wickets at Northowram.

There was no evidence of the batting frailty that saw them skittled out for just 80 at Batley as Buttershaw took on the Altofts attack with enthusiasm and, had it not been for some questionable running - Jonathan Burston (50) and Dharmesh Mistry (39) were both run out - they might have left Altofts a bigger total to chase.

As it was skipper James Robson (47) helped boost the Buttershaw score to 190-7 in their 40 overs, and with Paul Robinson knocking over the first three Altofts batsmen with only 23 on the board, Robson's men were on their way to a 17-run win.

Birstall were 208-run winners at Northowram (Craig Wood 125no), and Liversedge made short work of Oulton (42 all out) as spinner Nigel Doyle (3-5) followed his remarkable 6-20 in the 24-run league win at East Leeds the previous day, but Batley crashed to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Wrenthorpe, and Hopton Mills lost by six wickets at Hunslet Nelson.

So, Birstall, Buttershaw St Paul's and Liversedge are joined in the last eight by Wrenthorpe, Townville, Hunslet Nelson, Methley and Carlton.

Scholes remain top of the Premier Division after a six-wicket win at Birstall, despite a superb 97 from the home side's Rob McFarlane, after another great all-round performance from Zain Abbas (4-56 and 51) and an unbeaten 65 from Nick Whitehill.

Hopton Mills (100) lost by two wickets to Mirfield Parish in the Premier Division derby, while Batley still lead the way in the Championship, where Ayaz Seedat (102) and skipper Tariq Hussain (73no) were their only two players to make double figures.
