A club fielding two players with first-class careers that boast, between them, 100 appearances, almost 4,200 runs, 50 wickets and countless more successes in one day and T20 games is a good bet to win an All Rounder Cricket Equipment Central Yorkshire League game. And they did.
Ossett, under the guidance of player-coach John Sadler, formerly of Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire, and boosted by the presence of current Yorkshire all-rounder Richaed Pyrah, finished three-wicket winners with seven overs to spare in their Premier Division game at Carlton.
Former Woodlands and Spen Victoria player Pyrah was back at Albert Terrace to see his two old clubs in Priestley Cup action on Sunday but the day before he had made an outstanding contribution to Ossett's sucess.
Having taken 3-40 in 13 overs, Pyrah then held his side together in the face of a middle-order collapse to steer them home with 33 not out off 60 balls.
Scholes remain joint top, with Wakefield Thornes, after dropping their first points, at Hopton Mills.
The home side batted out their overs on 147-9, despite being 28-7 at one stage, but even the remarkable exploits of Michael Carroll (4-44 and 75 not out) could not help his side overcome Scholes' Nick Whitehill-inspired 183 all out. Whitehill made 66.
Birstall lost their first game, going down to a six-wicket defeat at Wrenthorpe, and Mirfield Parish crashed to a 116-run defeat at home to Wakefield Thornes.
In the Championship Division, Buttershaw St Paul's beat Liversedge by four wickets at Wibsey, Chris Kellett's 4-29 helping bowl out the visitors for 161, Abubakar Dawood top-scoring in the match with 56. Batley were eight-wicket winners at home to Wakefield St Michaels.
Westwood Park, without a game, entertain Gildersome next as they look to extend their 100 per cent start in this division, while, in the Premier Division, Birstall are at home to Townville, joint leaders Scholes play host to Wrenthorpe, Hopton Mills are at third-placed Altofts, and Ossett are at home to Mirfield Parish.
Championship leaders Batley go to third-placed East Ardsley and Liversedge hope to regain the winning habit at home to Oulton.
