The Dales Council League have decided against introducing a photo registration system for players.

The league’s results and fixtures secretary Ken Firth explained: “It is not over-expensive to run but there is a lot of work in setting it up.

“We have about 900 players in the league and the cost of a decent laminator is £50, with the ‘wallets’ a penny each.”

Clubs voted 11-5 against bringing it in – but they were 13-3 in favour of the league buying cricket balls on their behalf.

Chairman Steve Raistrick said: “All balls should be red, grade A and quartered. Readers match grade A are £12.50 each and grade A are £11 each but the league can buy them at £10. There is also the possibility of using Lord’s Sovereign.”

Firth added: “Some balls that have been used in the league are bat-breakers.”

Cookridge’s proposal that cup matches be continued on the following Sunday if they are not finished on the scheduled day – thereby eliminating midweek action – was passed 12-5, while the league executive committee’s proposal that clubs be fined £30 for non-fulfilment of cup matches was passed 12-0.

Previously clubs were only fined for non-fulfilment of league matches.

Umpires now have the power to lengthen the tea interval by ten minutes if refreshments are not reasonably adjacent to the pitch (passed 13-2). But they will not have to give marks on the pitches in the same way that they mark the teas (failed 12-10).

Pudsey Congs’ proposal that no player should be allowed to move more than once per season within the league was passed 10-7.
