Silsden have been comprehensively re-elected to the Aire-Wharfe League.

They received 30 votes out of a possible 31 at the league’s council meeting at Otley Rugby Union Club last night.

However, it was a much closer battle for Woodhouse, the other club who were up for re-election.

They only received 16 votes but that was just enough to see off Central Yorkshire League club East Leeds (14 votes), who were seeking admission for 2014.

The chief topic of conversation among the proposed rule alterations was whether clubs wanted a change to the points system.

They voted 21-10 in favour but then the discussion turned to whether that meant tinkering with the current system of six points for a win or moving to a bonus-points system.

After much debate, Menston’s proposal, based on the current Bradford League system of ten points for a win plus bonus points, will go forward.

However, the management committee will also put forward an amendment to the annual meeting, also at Otley RUFC, on Tuesday, November 26 (8.15pm).

The chief possibility there is giving the winning team 20 points regardless and the losing team bonus points.

Beckwithshaw, Bilton and Ilkley put forward separate proposals for tinkering with the current points system, and league secretary Dave Alred wants them to get their heads together and come up with a single proposal to be voted on at the annual meeting.

A win could either be eight, seven or six points, with an abandonment two or three points, while Ilkley also want clubs batting second who score less than 50 per cent of a team’s total in a completed match to be denied any points at all.

Leg-side wides and fielding circles could also be trialled in the Waddilove Cup next season, while Skipton and Ilkley want leg-side wides to be brought in for league matches as well.

Skipton wish second-team games to be reduced from a total of 100 overs to 90, while Menston prefer a total of 80 overs.

Beckwithshaw want teams to pay for 11 teas regardless of how many they order, while Skipton reckon the maximum cost of a tea should be £3.50.
