Wynn Cup holders Cullingworth must have fancied their chances of progressing when they travelled to Thornton, who are bottom of Division One.

However, they came unstuck and went crashing out of the Mewies Solicitors Craven League competition by 69 runs.

The Booth Bridge Lane side batted first, and man of the match Dave Scothern made a battling 67, which, along with Rob Foster’s 53, saw them post 176-9 as Phil Poole took 5-39.

The Roydwood Terrace side were then undone by Scothern, who took a remarkable 5-4 as they closed on 107, with Paddy Clarke top-scoring with 31.

Oakworth, runners-up in 2012, have made it through to the third round – without playing a game!

Their opponents Glusburn went the same way as Crossflatts, unable to raise a team, a move which stops their second team from playing in the next round of the Cowling Cup.

Herbie Starkey (52) and Charles Calvert (39) helped Cononley to 149 at home to Bingley Congs, Matt Roberts (5-27) and Adie Dibb 4-33 doing the damage with the ball.

Chris Hemsley (55) and Tony Teale (46no) led the successful chase, which succeeded by six wickets.

Long Lee extinguished the flame of Eldwick & Gilstead at Wagon Lane.

The Keighley side made 152, with Mark Day making 45 and Chris Childs taking 4-50.

The hosts were hustled out for a modest 53 in reply, with Shabaz Ahmed taking 4-10 and Matt Taylor 4-18.

Haworth Road were too strong for Sandy Lane at Baildon Bottom. The visitors were shot out for 42, which the hosts passed without losing a wicket.

There was an exciting finish over at Chatburn, where Denholme were the visitors.

The Bradford Road side made 202-9, with steady batting throughout, Richard Taylor making 38 and Adam Taylor 32.

The Ribble Valley side then tumbled to 60-7. Richard Shovelton (93), John Lockley (30) and Andy Booth (23no) took them to 201, where the last wicket fell with two balls of the game left.

There was another close finish at Barrowford. Visitors Ingrow St John’s made 198, with Omar Khatab scoring 59, Noman Riaz 32 and Sarum Farooq and Farman Abassi 31 apiece as S Butt took 5-59.

Butt then made 36 to go with Wasim Ali’s 48 as the Bull Holme side got home by two wickets.

Finally there was a stunning performance by Gargrave as they trounced Airedale by nine wickets at Skipton.

Matthew Cox (48) and Joe Milner (32) helped the visitors to 196 as Will Smith took 5-31 and Ben Howlett 3-55.

Smith rounded off a wonderful weekend for himself by hitting a magnificent 110no, and Lee Barrett scored 50 as the home side romped home.

Third-round draw: Long Lee v Barrowford, Gargrave v Oakworth, Bingley Congs v Denholme, Thornton v Haworth Road. Matches to be played Sunday, June 23.
