Clayton, who are propping up the Foster's Halifax League Premier Division, were on the wrong end of an 84-run defeat against First Division promotion chasers Northowram Hedge Top in the first round of the Parish Cup.

Hedge Top cashed in on a superb 157 from Ollie Hemingway that included 16 fours and ten sixes.

The Rams were 19-5 and 74-7 before S Saghir (25) and Gavin Watmough (27no) gave former Lightcliffe player Hemingway valuable support as the total shot up to 252-8.

Clayton, who had batted for five overs the previous Sunday before the heavens opened, were solid on the resumption, led by Sam Wilson’s 35, but they were a player short and folded for 168.

Oxenhope beat Denholme Clough by five wickets in another match spanning two weekends.

Clough made a respectable 216-9, with Alan Parkinson making 55 as Darren Hopkinson took three wickets in his only maiden over.

Oxenhope needed only 32 overs to complete victory on Sunday thanks to solid knocks from Craig Bartlett (63), Jack Barker (47) and Hopkinson (45).

Lower-division Wibsey Park Chapel were in with a sniff at 226-5, chasing Queensbury’s 271 at Old Guy Road, but the last five wickets fell for nine runs, including Jason Gelder by Phil Sharples for a hard-hit 81.

Queensbury's innings included 70 from Sharples, 63 from Jon Bruce and a quickfire 47 from Malik.

Key man for ‘Bury was Gurdev Singh with 3-18  for 18 off nine overs.

Bridgeholme’s hopes of an upset, after scoring 265 the previous week at home to Premier Division  Bradshaw, were crushed by opening batsmen Richard Moore and Steve Beck.

They were the only two players required by Bradshaw on the lengthy return trip to Eastwood, Moore making 144 not out and Beck 112 not out.

Bradshaw wrapped up a ten-wicket win in the 39th over and Bridgeholme tried ten bowlers in a vain attempt to break their partnership.

Copley, this year’s final hosts on Sunday, August 4, still have a chance of being in it after a 15-run win at Sowerby.

Craig Chew (49) and Mark Baldwin (40) were the main contributors in a Copley total of 190-7,  Martin Schofield taking 3-29 off his nine overs.

Ex-Triangle player Dan Crosland top scored with 37 in the Sowerby reply, Ian Hartley and Baldwin each picking up three wickets.

Holders Warley are among the clubs through in the Crossley Shield.

Jimmy Sarwar made 100 not out as they made light of a target of 196 to beat visitors Old Town, winning by nine wickets.

The second rounds take place on Sunday, June 2 (reserve date June 9) and four Crossley Shield ties have had to be reversed due to clubs having both teams drawn at home.
