Careless batting saw holders East Bierley crash out of the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup in the second round as they lost by five wickets to Pudsey St Lawrence.

The defending champions were dismissed for 161 with eight and a half overs of their innings still remaining.

Opener Gavin Hamilton (42) and overseas player Waqas Maqsood (42no) were the only batsmen to make an impression as off-spinner Chris Marsden continued his good form with 4-30. Teenage seamer Jordan Thompson (3-6) gave good support.

St Lawrence, who defeated East Bierley in the 2011 final, eased to their victory target as skipper Mark Robertshaw (51) led the way.

The day’s best bowling performance came from David Stiff, who played for Saints in their 2011 cup final triumph.

Stiff took 5-9 as Hanging Heaton dismissed Cleckheaton for just 87 to record a 106-run win. Veteran John Carruthers (4-33) chipped in with his best figures of the season as only Ian Nicholson (34no) resisted for long.

Captain Mark Lawson was the other key figure in Heaton’s success, making an unbeaten 81 with four sixes and five fours. His efforts sparked a recovery from 80-5 to 193-8.

Manningham Mills, last year’s runners-up, made it into the last eight with a 110-run win over Division Two side Hartshead Moor.

Big-hitting overseas player Noman Ali smashed 11 sixes and four fours as he made an unbeaten 104, well supported by Aezaz Dar (51) in a 296-8 total.

Danny Squire was the pick of the Moor bowlers with 4-24, before Mills bowled out their opponents for 186 (Gulsheraz Ahmed 4-25).

Simon Mason confirmed his return to form for league champions Woodlands by making a superb 107 as his side brushed aside Undercliffe by 96 runs.

Overseas player Nawaz Sardar made 50 as Undercliffe were all out for 171 in reply to Woodlands’ 267-6.

Former Yorkshire player Chris Taylor (72) and Dave Hester (50) shared a decisive third-wicket stand of 120 to earn Lightcliffe a three-wicket win over Yeadon.

Both batsmen were victims of Nick Hudson (4-19) as Lightcliffe had a few nervy moments before securing victory.

Opener Damon Gormley (43) had been the main contributor in Yeadon’s 176-9 (Daanyaal Ahmed 4-25).

Babar Butt and Callum Geldart both made 59 as Pudsey Congs chased down Baildon’s 214-9 to win by five wickets, sharing a key third-wicket stand of 115.

Zafar Jadoon took 5-19 but could not save Brighouse from a one-wicket defeat at Bankfoot. Brighouse were bowled out for 110 (Kamran Siddique 4-37) but made a real fight of it thanks to Jadoon.

Bradford & Bingley complete the last-eight line-up after a 38-run victory over Division Two side Windhill.

The underdogs were looking good after dismissing their hosts for 160 but were restricted to 139-8 in reply, despite a determined 48 not out from former Guiseley player Abid Awan.
