Yorkshire have taken their first-innings lead to 64 during the second afternoon session against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
The champions, defending just 128, snared the wickets of Phil Jaques and Andrew Gale after lunch as the White Rose advanced their score from 80-2 to 192-4 from 69 overs at tea.
Both went to off-spinner Jeetan Patel, the New Zealander who is currently out of the international reckoning.
Jaques was caught behind by Tim Ambrose for 25 and Gale superbly caught one-handed by Rikki Clarke at slip for 40.
Gale played fluently, and made the most of being handed two lives by Darren Maddy at point off Chris Woakes, and Woakes himself down at long-leg off Boyd Rankin.
The left-handed skipper pulled two sixes, the latter coming when Woakes carried one over the ropes, on the way to his highest score of the season.
Gary Ballance and Adil Rashid, 27 and 19 not out respectively, will resume their fifth-wicket stand of 45 after tea.
