Three wickets in 18 balls without conceding a run for Liam Plunkett helped Yorkshire make an excellent start to their latest LV= County Championship clash with champions Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
Rain prevented the match beginning until 2.30pm, with 37 overs lost in the day, but Plunkett helped the visitors make up that lost time as the Bears slipped to 64-5 from 30 overs at tea.
His burst, which brought him the wickets of Will Porterfield, Darren Maddy and Tim Ambrose, was sandwiched in between strikes for new ball pair Ryan Sidebottom and Steve Patterson.
Sidebottom had Varun Chopra well caught at second slip by Adam Lyth to leave the score at 12-1 in the seventh.
Plunkett then had Porterfield brilliantly caught by a diving Rich Pyrah at point, Maddy trapped lbw for a duck and Ambrose caught by a juggling Lyth at second slip.
And when Patterson ripped out Chris Woakes’s middle stump as he bowled him through the gate, the champions were 55-5.
Plunkett finished the session with figures of 3-14 from eight overs. Jim Troughton (28) and Rikki Clarke are the not out batsmen.
