Several clubs will be surprised to find themselves in the second round of the Wynn Cup after most of Sunday’s ties in the Craven League knockout competition were badly affected by the rain and decided by a bowl-out.

Sandy Lane were at Haworth and made 155 (A Blackburn 52). The Bronte side were then cruising at 46-0 off 11 overs when play was abandoned and it was Lane who progressed by winning the bowl-out 2-1.

Bradley nipped down the road to Cononley and smashed 222-8 (Peter Herbert 62, Matt Buckmaster 56). The home side were unable to start their reply but won the bowl-out 1-0.

Embsay were knocked out by Eldwick & Gilstead. The game had been switched to Shires Lane but no play was possible and Eldwick won 1-0.

Foulridge looked to be well placed against holders Cullingworth. The Noyna side posted 210 (Andy Dutton 64, John Lambert 59) and the home side had reached 2-0 when play was curtailed, with the defending champions then progressing 1-0.

Haworth Road must have breathed a sigh of relief as they won via a bowl-out at Haworth WE. After five bowlers from each side had bowled, the score was 2-2. Then in sudden death the Baildon Bottom outfit got home 2-1. The eight-man Penistone Hill side had made 117-7 (Andy Gudgeon 6-35) and the reply reached 37-1 in six overs before play ceased.

The all-Division Two scrap between Glusburn and Ingrow was set up nicely before the rain came. The Hainworth side recovered from 76-5 to finish on 196-7 thanks to David Brown (72no) and Chris Herbert (47), who put on 93 for the sixth wicket. Mark Pickles (4-38) hit the stumps in the bowl-out to send Glusburn through.

Steve Richardson followed his 90 in Saturday’s game with 71 to help Cowling to 151-6 at home to Thornton, who won the bowl-out 1-0.

Ingrow St John’s smashed 305 (Noman 103, Wasim Husain 50) off visitors Riddlesden’s attack and Saints won the bowl-out 2-1.

Only two games were completed, with ten-man Wilsden making 103-9 at Gargrave (Will Smith 5-33) before the hosts romped home by ten wickets (Smith 80no).

Airedale (Matthew Cox 117no) won by nine wickets at home to Sutton, who had posted 179-3 thanks to an unbroken partnership of 131 by opener Chris Williams (98no) and Andy Kay (58no).

Second-round draw: Haworth Road v Sandy Lane, Chatburn v Denholme, Cononley v Bingley Congs, Oakworth v Glusburn, Thornton v Cullingworth, Gargrave v Airedale, Eldwick & Gilstead v Pendle Forest or Long Lee, Barrowford v Ingrow St John’s.
