Manningham Mills are the new Bradford League leaders after gaining maximum Division One points as they beat Baildon by 88 runs at Scotchman Road.

Opener Adal Islam was top scorer against his old club with 80 not out in Mills’ formidable total of 264-5.

Baildon were bowled out for 176 as Zeeshan Qasim took 5-45, with Simon Bailey (60) the visitors’ leading scorer.

Previous leaders Pudsey Congs dropped to fourth place after losing their first match of the season at home to defending champions Woodlands, who bounced back emphatically after their surprise defeat at Baildon the previous week.

Scott Richardson (92) and Sam Frankland (52) gave Woodlands a great start with an opening stand of 143 but the innings went downhill after that and they were forced to settle for 205-8, with Richie Lamb taking 4-38 and Ed Walmsley 3-42.

Congs struggled in reply and were bowled out 115 as paceman Sarfraz Ahmed (4-42) and left-arm spinner Chris Brice (4-23) did the damage.

Left-hander Joe Fraser made 108 not out, including four sixes and 15 fours, while sharing a fifth-wicket stand of 110 with David Stiff (52) as Hanging Heaton totalled 235-6 at home to Cleckheaton – but lost by six wickets.

The visitors judged their run chase perfectly, reaching the challenging target with 1.5 overs to spare after Tim Jackson (92) and overseas player Ammer Mahmood (85) laid the foundations by putting on 142 for the second wicket.

Promoted Morley recorded their first win of the season with a surprise eight-wicket success against Pudsey St Lawrence. They bowled out the visitors for 101, with overseas player Kashif Naveed taking 3-1 and off-spinner David Nebard 2-17.

Morley lost two early wickets in reply before David Paynter (40no) and Naveed (39) guided them to victory.

Bradford & Bingley beat Saltaire for the second time in a week but their margin of victory was much closer than the 252-run Priestley Cup win at Roberts Park six days earlier.

At one stage Bingley were struggling at 56-5 after losing three wickets without a run being scored. But Chris Thompson rescued the situation with 60 to enable them to reach 160 as Saltaire’s overseas bowler Khuram Shahzad took 5-32 in his first match for the club.

The visitors went down by 56 runs after being bowled out for 104, with teenage fast bowler Jack Hartley taking 6-45 and Scott Etherington 4-13.

The top two clubs in Division Two both won to maintain their 100 per cent records.

New boys New Farnley beat Hartshead Moor by ten wickets, with Nadeem Hussain taking 4-29 and David McCallum 4-11 as they bowled out the home side for 110.

Matthew Good dominated New Farnley’s reply with 84 not out as they cruised to victory in 21.1 overs.

Farsley enjoyed a four-wicket win at Keighley, restricting the home side to 169-4 in a match reduced to 35 overs each because of rain.

Ian Philliskirk (46), Andrew Duckworth (44) and Barrie Frankland (40no) led Farsley home.
