Pre-season Mewies Solicitors Craven League Division One favourites Oakworth got their season off to a cracking start as they hammered Thornton by nine wickets at Wide Lane.

The west Craveners had first use of the wicket and battled their way to 141-9, with Rob Foster making 52 and Chris Bowker 34 as Adam Smith claimed 4-34 off 14 overs.

Jack Hainsworth (55) and Rob Hopkinson put on 105 for the first wicket. Hopkinson finished on 71 not out and Paul Spragg 14 not out as victory was achieved in the 35th over.

Newly-promoted Ingrow St John’s pulled off a stunning win in Bronteland as they beat champions Haworth by five runs in an exciting finish.

The Saints made 154, with Nomaan making 32 as Damian Rowell and Gary Binns claimed three wickets each.

The hosts made steady progress to reach 100-4, and then it was nip and tuck as they clawed their way to the required total.

However, with tens balls to go they lost their last wicket. Jamie Rowell made 40 and Adie Parker 36 as Hussain and Saftar took three wickets apiece.

The other promoted side, Foulridge, also got off to a winning start as they crushed Haworth Road by nine wickets at Noyna.

Andy Dutton (5-25) and John Lambert (4-50) saw the Baildon Bottom side back to the hut for 132, of which Will Burgess made 31.

The home side lost David Spokes for 34 with the score on 69. Then Dutton (50no) and John Lickess (40no) took them to the winning post.

Barrowford entertained Bingley Congs and posted 140-9, with N Ahmed leading the way with 42 as Neil Copping spun his way to 5-45 off 15 overs.

The Beckfoot side were then knocked over for a modest 85. Chris Dibb top-scored with 24 as J Babar took 5-23.

Embsay were at home to Bradley and had them at 83-7 in the 32nd over.

Then two of their younger players, Peter Herbert (50no) and Rob Smith (15) took the score to 137-8 at the end of the overs. Adam Jackson was the most successful bowler, taking 4-42.

The Shires Lane side battled their way to a two-wicket win in the 38th over. Duncan Ward made 48 as James Heseltine took 4-25.

Crossflatts nipped up the hill to Cullingworth and took the points home.

Going first, the Ryshworth Park side amassed 170, with R Ayub top-scoring with 72 as new Aussie star Josh Thurston took 5-53.

The Roydwood Terrace side fell 37 short as Ayub took 4-14 and Fiaz Akram 4-39.

In Division Two, Wilsden travelled to Pendle Forest and made 131-6, with Steve Wright top-scoring with 52.

The Fence side fell 14 short in the run chase, with Andrew Townsend and R Ahmed both making 36 as Dave Hahn took 4-55.

Promoted Denholme went down by five wickets at home to Glusburn, with Isaac Murray scoring 34 and Mark Pickles taking 5-22. The visitors' top scorer was Nick Williamson with 28no.

Sutton got their season off to an excellent start as they beat Airedale by 145 runs.

The Royd Hill side went first and rattled up 205-5, with new skipper Craig Thornton scoring 71, Andy Kay 34no and Mohammed Shanawaz 31.

The Keighley side have had the heart ripped out of them, with players transferring away and it showed as they stumbled to 60 all out as Justin Holdsworth claimed 5-17 and Ben Bolland 3-14.

Demoted Ingrow stumbled to defeat at home to Cowling by six wickets. Steve Richardson claimed 4-59 off 21.2 overs as the Hainworth side staggered to 128 all out, Lee Humphreys making 30.

Graham Rishton (48no) and Charlie Hassan (36) took the south Craveners to victory in the 37th over.

Long Lee went down by 70 runs at Barrowford II. The Bull Holme side were put in and made 145-8, with Ajmal Choudhry making 33 as Matt Taylor claimed 4-32.

The Golden Acre side were indebted to Richard Ayrton, who made 41 of their modest 75. Mark Atkinson took 5-25 and keeper Joe Riley took five catches.

Riddlesden’s V Kakkar was run out on 99, going for a second run, as his side reached 236-8 at home to Oakworth II.

He then took 3-18 to go with Mohammed Zulfiqar’s 3-27 as the Wide Lane side replied with 142-9, with skipper Steve Powell scoring 59.

In Division Three, Ingrow St John’s II made 188-8 at home to Chatburn, with Abid Hussain making 70 and Anjum Shakeel 54.

The Ribble Valley side fell 46 short of their target, with Neil Cartledge top-scoring with 40 as Mohammed Attiq claimed 5-38 and Ali Khalid 5-60.

Newly promoted Bradford & Bingley III got their season off to a good start as they beat neighbours Crossflatts II by 63 runs.

The Wagon Laners posted 191-5, with Andrew Dobson making 48no and Ryan Baines 44no. The home side were never in the hunt.

Wilsden II humbled Haworth West End by shooting them out for a paltry 30, with no player reaching double figures. Rob Greenwood (5-7) was destroyer in chief. Early the Windy Grove side had made 149-6, with Shahid Mahmood making 55.

Haworth Road were hustled out for 58 by Embsay II, with Neil Robinson taking 4-9 off ten overs. Then evergreen Brian Hodgson and under-15 skipper Elliott Stockton took the Shires Lane side to an impressive ten-wicket triumph.

Demoted Sandy Lane skittled Gargrave for a measly 33 at Skipton Road, with Steve Carass taking 7-18 and Chris Mitchell 3-15.

The Greenwood Park side didn’t have things easy as they lost five wickets reaching their target as Will Smith took 3-13.

The other demoted side, Cononley, met Eldwick & Gilstead at Wagon Lane and, going first, made 153, with Andrew Starkey hitting 70 as Simon Timperley claimed 6-35. The south Craveners had the hosts back in the hut for 67.

Skipton CI started life in Division Four with a handy four-wicket victory over visitors Pendle Forest II.

The Fence side started well to reach 93-2 and then collapsed to 138 all out, with John Stuttard taking 5-65 and Sean Williamson 4-44. Skipper Paul Mason led the Sandylands side to the points with 31no.

Ingrow II's visit to Bradley II was fruitful as they won by 93 runs. A Stocks (47) and Mark Pennington (31no) held the Hainworth side to 164 as evergreen Tim Rudden bowled through to finish with 5-58.

The home side had reached 53-1 but then collapsed to 71 all out in the face of a fine piece of bowling by Matty Courtman, who took 7-4 in just six overs.

S Hunter made 44 as Airedale II made 81 at home to Cullingworth II, with W Grace taking 4-12. Stuart Rogers (35) helped the visitors to a comfortable 6 wicket victory.

Long Lee II were dismissed for 66 at Golden View by Bingley Congs II, with Michael Baines taking 6-24. The Beckfoot side romped home by six wickets.

 Dan Oldfield (87) and veteran Mark Proctor (60) helped Thornton II to 208 at home to Riddlesden II.

The Grange Road side made a creditable 166 in reply, with J Spencer making 52 as Maurice Oldfield claimed 6-55.

Paul Schofield (59) and Paul McCullough (38) helped Glusburn II to 185-8 at home to Haworth II. The Bronte side were dismissed for 91, with evergreen Bryan Hollis taking 5-31.

The first century of the season was scored by Andy Hallas - 107 - in Division Five as Haworth West End II made 188-9 at home to Gargrave II as Stuart Weatherall took 5-66.

The Skipton Road side were back in the hut for 91, with Weatherall making 31 as Harry Sherlock took 4-12 and Phil Aldred 3-16.

Another evergreen, David Holdsworth, took 4-5 off three overs to help dismiss neighbours Cononley for 81. Sutton cantered home by six wickets.

R Farooq made 73 as nine-man Sandy Lane II totalled 136-8 at home to Skipton CI II.

The Sandylands side, also with nine men, got home by seven wickets, with V Nawaz scoring 54no and skipper Sam Smith 40no.

Foulridge II saw off Cowling II by 18 runs at Keighley Road. Fred Brooker-Carey made 42 as the Noyna side posted 151-8, with R Cave taking 6-55.

Cowling replied with 133-6 in their 45 overs, with B Davy making 47.

Finally, Oakworth II went down by five wickets to Denholme II at Bronte Park.
