With teams still shaking off ring rust at the start of the Aire-Wharfe League season, the preliminary round of the Waddilove Cup always provides the opportunity for a shock – but Josh Hobson made sure Rawdon didn’t suffer any such embarrassment at Silsden.
Joe Loorham (74) and Paul Malkin (63) put on 118 for the third wicket and with a late burst from Chris Brown (30no), Rawdon set the Third Division side a stiff target of 246-6.
Then Hobson got to work and produced an eight-over spell of 7-29, which included a hat-trick, as Silsden were routed for just 57.
It looked as though a giant-killing might be on the cards at Follifoot when veteran Peter Kempton carried his bat with an impressive 134 not out in Hall Park’s 245-6.
But the home side, who have lost their opening two Division One games, found the perfect reply, openers James Ford (102no) and Nick Robinson putting on 111. Aaron Chapman took three quick wickets to raise hopes but Ford and David Mahoney saw Follifoot through.
Darren Wilson (54) and Gareth Wilkinson (49no) shared a century fourth-wicket stand as Tong Park reached 149-5 but Beckwithshaw knocked them off in 23 overs with Rob Ellis and Yasar Ali hitting unbeaten half centuries.
Adel won their rain-affected tie Illingworth, clinching the bowl out 4-1.
