Buttershaw St Paul’s go into their game against Methley A at Wibsey still looking for their first win of the season.
After losing their Heavy Woollen Cup tie at Liversedge by just ten runs they were hoping for better in their CYL First Division clash at Roberttown Lane but found a huge obstacle in Paul Marlow.
Marlow, returning to Liversedge from Birstall after a long break, has immediately regained his scoring touch. In fact Buttershaw just couldn’t keep him out of the game.
Batting first Liversedge reached 225-4, with Darmesh and Pritesh Mistry going for 120 runs between them in 23 overs as Marlow hit six sixes and six fours in an unbeaten 82 off 62 balls.
In reply Marlow bowled top-scoring Kevin McDermott for 53 and caught out Buttershaw skipper Paul Carroll off the devastating bowling of spinner Nigel Doyle (7-53) as the visitors closed on 186-9 to deny Liversedge maximum points.
Liversedge now go to a Hopton Mills side boasting two wins out of two.
In the Premier Division, Birstall saw their happy wanderer Eric Austin back on board with a fine 80 in a total of 244-6 at home to Batley and Saif ur Rehman’s 5-54 helped bowl out the visitors for 190.
Birstall now entertain Altofts in a game between the Premier Division escapologists. Both sides would have been relegated last year but for the decision of Moorlands and New Farnley to leave the League.
Yorkshire all rounder Richard Pyrah was in top form for Ossett with 6-61 in their six-wicket win at Mirfield Parish Cavaliers. Ossett are home to reigning champions Wrenthorpe this weekend while Mirfield Parish go to Hunslet Nelson.
