Mark Stoneman clinched his fifth first-class century for Durham this afternoon as the hosts pushed for an LV= County Championship victory against Yorkshire at the Riverside.

The left-handed opener posted 109 off 167 balls before edging Liam Plunkett to Gary Ballance at first slip, the third of four wickets to fall between lunch and tea.

Even though Durham gained a second-innings lead of 280 with a tea score of 220-4 from 64 overs, Yorkshire at least fought back well.

Tim Bresnan and Plunkett equally shared the four wickets to fall.

Bresnan had Keaton Jennings caught behind by Jonny Bairstow for 48, ending a first-wicket stand of 123 alongside Stoneman, with the second ball of the 41st over, before forcing Will Smith to edge to Joe Root at third slip four balls later.

Stoneman reached his ton off 141 balls before falling to Plunkett, who later got big mate Ben Stokes caught behind on his return to the north east.

Stokes had only just been dropped by Phil Jaques in the deep on the leg side off Adil Rashid.

Dale Benkenstein, who also shared 68 for the third wicket with Stoneman, reached tea on 38 not out, with captain Paul Collingwood unbeaten on four.
