Champions Farsley launched their bid for a third successive Second Teams First Division title with a six-wicket win at Bowling Old Lane.
Adam Walker took 4-21 as Old Lane, despite 46 from Saj Haidar, were bowled out for 129.
Farsley eased to their victory target thanks to Ross Monaghan (42) and new skipper Stuart Kirk (30no).
Last season’s Division Two champions Bradford & Bingley also made a good start. They defeated East Bierley by 62 runs, despite being bowled out for 112 as spinner Matthew Anderson took 6-45. Richard Slater (5-36) and Adam Wood (3-1) did the damage as East Bierley were skittled for just 50.
Hartshead Moor are the early pacesetters after beating Yeadon by 72 runs. Martin Riley took (4-22) as Yeadon were bowled out for 111 in reply to a Hartshead Moor’s total of 183-4, which owed much to the fine efforts of Louis Brooke (76no) and Martin Ellis (49).
Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield winners Keighley suffered a 74-run defeat at home to Morley on their return to the top flight.
Keighley were skittled out for just 60 as Spenser Horsfall (5-19) and Paul Kinder (3-9) sealed Morley’s victory.
Woodlands, runners up in both the league and the Priestley Shield last season, lost on the opening day.
They bowled Lightcliffe out for 95 but then crashed to 77 all out, with Lightcliffe’s new recruit, veteran seamer Chris Hester, taking 5-22.
Hanging Heaton were another side with a dose of the batting blues. They were dismissed for just 61 as Baildon beat them by six wickets. The ever-reliable Jamie Abbott took 4-15 with his leg spin.
Salman Sayed made 30 as Baildon eased home despite off-spinner Umar rehman taking 4-18.
In Division Two, New Farnley’s second team completed a fine first day for their club with a home victory over Undercliffe. Natt Skirrow, a recent recruit from Hanging Heaton took 4-52 before Chris Blackburn (44) and Reece Thompson (42) guided New Farnley to victory.
Danny Clifyon blazed his way to an unbeaten 110 as Pudsey Congs crushed Gomersal by ten wickets.
