It seems that only the weather can save Yorkshire from defeat in their LV= County Championship opener against Sussex after an afternoon session in which they lost five key wickets in scoring 105 runs.
By tea the home side had reached 132-6, still needing 128 more runs to avoid an innings defeat, with all five wickets falling to the seamers.
Adam Lyth was the first to go, caught down the leg side off James Anyon, who then had Andrew Gale pouched at third slip by Ed Joyce for three.
Chris Jordan’s accurate delivery burst through Jonny Bairstow’s defences and two wickets in two balls for Steve Magoffin seem to have sealed Yorkshire’s fate.
The Australian seamer produced a fine delivery to remove Phil Jaques, caught at slip for a gutsy 57, and Azeem Rafiq played his first ball on to his stumps.
If Yorkshire lose this game it will be their first defeat in 19 four-day games.
