There were wickets for Liam Plunkett and Azeem Rafiq but also 132 runs off 31 overs for the Sussex batsmen on an eventful second morning of the LV= County Championship Division One match at Headingley as top-tier cricket continued to be a hard school for Andrew Gale's men.
At the break, Ed Joyce's side were 236-5 - a lead of 140 and it's plain that. if the weather holds, Yorkshire will need to bat well in their second innings.
Plunkett grabbed the first wicket when he had Rory Hamilton-Brown lbw for 26, the former Surrey skipper playing all around the seamer's second ball of the morning after hitting five stylish boundaries.
Then Joe Gatting, having played fluently for 20, tried to hit Azeem Rafiq's first ball of his spell over the top but only skied it to wide mid-off, where Jack Brooks took a very good catch running round.
There has been no shortage of appeals, some of them very confident, but at the interval Joyce was 58 not out while Ben Brown was unbeaten on 24.
