Gary Ballance has posted an excellent century against the Leeds/Bradford MCC Universities in a successful bid to underpin a Yorkshire recovery with the bat this afternoon thanks to the help of Ryan Sidebottom.
The in-form left-hander, who recently enjoyed an excellent tour of Australia with the England Lions, has ensured the White Rose recovered from 65-7 this morning to reach tea at Headingley on 211-7 from 75 overs.
Ballance and Sidebottom will resume this evening on 102 and 38 respectively having shared an unbroken 146 for the eighth wicket.
He and Sidebottom have batted since before lunch as the students have tired and the ball has become softer. The visitors will rue two dropped catches off Ivan Thomas’s bowling with Ballance on 65 and 69. Both should have been taken in the slips.
Ballance’s 13th century of his first-class career comes a day after he was named in England’s provisional 30-man squad for the one-day Champions Trophy this summer.
