Ian Banks walked away from his role as manager of Eccleshill United today after a poor display at the weekend proved to be the final straw.

Former Bradford City player and assistant-boss Banks said: “I spoke to Mark Ellis (Eccleshill’s director of football) after Saturday’s game and we decided to leave any decision until after the weekend. I spoke to Mark again this morning and we decided to part ways.

“I have enjoyed my time with Eccleshill and the people there have been great with me. Ian Mason (assistant) will also be leaving and we both wish Eccles-hill all the best for the future.”

Ellis – another former Bantam – said: “Ian is a great coach and we have been lucky to have him as manager. If there are any Football League clubs looking for someone with exceptional qualities and experience they would do well to take him on.

“Our reserve-team manager Dia Jones will be taking charge of team affairs in the interim period and we will wait and see who comes forward. But with Dia in charge there is no need to rush things.”

Eccleshill’s 2-1 defeat at home to Bottesford on Saturday left them fourth-from-bottom in Division One of the Northern Counties East League.

In today's FA Cup third qualifying round draw, Bradford Park Avenue were the only one of the three local clubs still involved in the competition not to be handed a tie against a team from the same league.

Park Avenue will head to Evo-Stik Division One South outfit Carlton Town.

Guiseley travel to fellow Blue Square Bet North outfit Colwyn Bay, while FC Halifax Town must visit either Gainsborough Trinity or Chester FC.

Tomorrow night’s games, which are all in doubt following today’s heavy rainfall, see Farsley host Ossett Town in the Evo-Stik Division One North, Liversedge journey to Arnold Town and Brighouse Town host Long Eaton United in the Baris Northern Counties East Premier Division.
