Leeds boss Neil Warnock had few complaints about his side’s performance as they ended Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten start to the Champ-ionship season with a 2-1 victory at Elland Road.

Goals from leading scorer Luciano Becchio and teenager Dom Poleon saw off the challenge of Forest in a match watched by potential investors from Bahrain.

The success not only ended a two-game losing run for Leeds but allowed manager Neil Warnock to avenge the 7-3 defeat at the hands of the same opposition in March that he described as one of the worst nights of his career.

“We had no man of the match because it was a fabulous team performance,” Warnock said. “Every one of them worked their socks off.

“I was proud of them, especially when you consider that Forest had players worth about four or five million quid on the bench.

“It was an exciting game and you just couldn’t take your eyes away from it for a second. We’ve played some tough games so far and done well with the thin squad we’ve got.”

Argentinian striker Becchio had been an injury doubt before the game and Warnock said: “It was a late decision to play him.

“Luciano is a tough cookie. He knew we were desperate for him to play, so he didn’t do much yesterday.

“I told him to take his missus shopping because we couldn’t risk him getting injured.”

The last unbeaten record in the Championship fell as a result of Forest’s defeat, and manager Sean O’Driscoll blamed some of their troubles on referee Andy D’Urso.

“We didn’t deserve anything in the first half,” he said.

“We did well for the first ten minutes or so and, for the life of me, I can’t see why Dexter Blackstock’s goal was disallowed before they scored.

“Then in the blink of an eye we were two goals down. We responded well and got a goal back in the second half but I was frustrated with the referee.

“I would describe Andy D’Urso’s performance as baffling. I haven’t a clue what a foul is any more after those strange decisions, though it was a difficult game to referee.”

Becchio lashed in his seventh goal of the season from six yards in the 15th minute before Poleon steered home his first senior goal in his first start 11 minutes later.

Blackstock headed in Greg Halford’s long throw on the hour to reduce the arrears but that was as close as Forest got.
