Ricky Ravenhill column
It might sound a bit strange to say but it’s a good thing that I can’t get in the team right now. I’d obviously love to be playing but the fact that I’m not shows that we are doing well.
I’m happy to bide my time. After the frustrating time being injured, I’m over the moon to be back with the lads training and on the bench again.
We’ve got a strong, healthy squad with people playing well and winning games. You can’t argue with that.
It must be hard to be a manager because you want a strong squad with strong competition but equally it can be difficult to keep players happy when they’re not involved. But as a pro, you’ve got to be in it for the team game and the results have been good.
For those not involved, it’s about keeping working hard in training and making sure you are ready to go when the call comes.
We’re all happy with the start we’ve made and hopefully we can stay on track and get into those automatic promotion places.
We aren’t chasing and right from the off we are up where we want to be. If you keep near enough to an average of two points a game then you won’t be far off.
The home crowd have got to be happy enough with goals and lots of action. Don’t forget that Morecambe are a good team who I’m sure will be there or thereabouts.
But sometimes it’s a different sort of game going away. We like to go out and create chances but there are occasions when you have to be content with keeping it tight.
Sometimes it’s best to try to keep it at 0-0 up to 80 minutes and then sneak a goal.
Oxford have had some bad results of late but we know what they are capable of. They have spent a lot of money on some good players and it’s going to be a tough game there on Saturday.
I just hope that we can keep their wobble going for another week and build on our own good form.
